Alzheimer: Imaging Inflammation & Innovation

The Molecular Neuroimaging in Psychiatry group, led by Prof. Philippe Millet, took part in the Rencontres francophones sur la Maladie d’Alzheimer et Syndromes Apparentés (RFMASA 2025) hosted by the Leenaards Memory Centre at CHUV.

The team presented ongoing research projects aimed at better understanding brain inflammation and metabolism in Alzheimer’s disease and developing innovative strategies to overcome the blood-brain barrier for therapeutic delivery.

  • Dr Benjamin Tournier shared his work on glial activation mediated by TSPO and its impact on neuroinflammation and metabolism, showing a recovery of cognitive symptoms after TSPO inhibition.
  • Dr Kelly Ceyzériat and Dr Laurene Abjean received the Best Poster Award 🎉 for their study on the temporary, ultrasound-induced permeability of the blood-brain barrier — a promising approach for brain-targeted therapies.
  • Aurélien Badina presented his ongoing PhD research in spatial transcriptomics, investigating glial inflammation patterns and neuronal death in proximity to amyloid-β deposits.

These contributions highlight the strength of Geneva’s translational neuroscience, bridging molecular imaging, cellular biology, and neurotechnology to advance novel therapeutic perspectives in Alzheimer’s disease.
