The Fondation pour Recherches Médicales (FRM) is pleased to highlight the award of a grant from the Private Foundation of the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) to Aurélien Lathuilière, Stergios Tsartsalis, Philippe Millet and Benjamin Tournier, researchers affiliated with the Foundation.
This funding supports an ambitious translational research project focused on Alzheimer’s disease, exploring the interaction between APOE genotypes, particularly APOE4, and the function of glial cells, including astrocytes and microglia.
The APOE4 allele is the strongest known genetic risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease. However, the biological mechanisms through which it influences brain inflammation and neuronal metabolism remain poorly understood.
By combining innovative mouse models with human brain samples, the project aims to:
This research perfectly illustrates the value of translational approaches, bridging fundamental and clinical research to advance the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases and ultimately improve patient care.
The Fondation pour Recherches Médicales warmly congratulates the research team on this achievement and thanks the Private Foundation of HUG for its continued support of high-impact translational research.
